Mexico's weather is shaped by its dramatic topography, with the Sierra Madre mountain ranges creating distinct climate zones within short distances. The country straddles the Tropic of Cancer, giving its southern half a tropical climate with wet and dry seasons, while the northern deserts of Chihuahua and Sonora experience extreme heat and minimal rainfall similar to the American Southwest.

The hurricane season from June through November is a defining feature of Mexico's weather, with both the Pacific and Gulf coasts vulnerable to major tropical cyclones. Coastal resort areas like Cancun, Puerto Vallarta, and Cabo San Lucas attract visitors with warm temperatures and abundant sunshine, though the rainy season brings afternoon downpours and occasional tropical weather. The Baja California peninsula offers desert conditions with remarkably clear skies, while the southern states of Chiapas and Oaxaca receive some of the country's heaviest rainfall.
