Jalisco climate

Jalisco enjoys a subtropical highland climate in the Guadalajara metropolitan area, with warm, dry winters and a well-defined rainy season from June through October. The capital sits at 1,566 meters elevation, giving it comfortable average temperatures around 20°C with summer highs near 33°C.

The state's Pacific coastline around Puerto Vallarta has a tropical wet-dry climate with temperatures consistently above 25°C and heavy monsoon rains from July to September. Lake Chapala, Mexico's largest freshwater lake, moderates temperatures in the surrounding area and creates localized weather patterns.

Severe thunderstorms with large hail and damaging winds are a regular summer hazard in the Guadalajara metro area, occasionally causing significant flooding. A historic hailstorm in June 2019 deposited over a meter of ice across parts of the city, demonstrating the intensity of convective weather in the region.
