Veracruz Weather Forecast

Veracruz is Mexico's longest coastal state, stretching over 700 kilometers along the Gulf of Mexico, and features extraordinary climate diversity from sea-level tropical lowlands to the summit of Pico de Orizaba at 5,636 meters. The capital Xalapa at 1,460 meters has a humid subtropical climate with frequent fog and drizzle, earning it the nickname "City of Flowers."

The Gulf coast receives heavy rainfall, with some areas in the Sierra de los Tuxtlas and the northern mountains receiving over 3,000mm annually. The port city of Veracruz is hot and humid year-round, while Xalapa's highland position keeps it 10-15°C cooler. Winter "nortes" bring cold winds, heavy rain, and rough seas that can shut down port operations for days.

Veracruz is one of the states most affected by tropical cyclones in Mexico, with the Gulf coast exposed to hurricanes from the Atlantic basin. The mountainous terrain amplifies rainfall from tropical systems, triggering devastating landslides and river flooding. The Pico de Orizaba and Cofre de Perote volcanic peaks generate their own microclimates and receive winter snowfall above 4,000 meters.
