San Luis Potosi Weather Forecast

San Luis Potosi spans from the arid Altiplano Potosino in the west to the lush tropical Huasteca region in the east, creating one of the most dramatic climate contrasts of any Mexican state. The capital city at 1,860 meters has a semi-arid climate averaging 18°C with hot springs and cool winters.

The Huasteca Potosina receives over 2,000mm of annual rainfall fed by Gulf moisture, creating spectacular waterfalls, rivers, and tropical forests. In stark contrast, the western desert and altiplano receive as little as 300mm, with the Real de Catorce area experiencing near-constant wind and sparse vegetation.

Summer thunderstorms on the altiplano can be intense but brief, while the Huasteca experiences prolonged tropical downpours that regularly cause river flooding. Winter cold fronts occasionally bring frost and freezing temperatures to the highland capital, and the semi-desert areas experience extreme day-night temperature swings of 20°C or more.
