Chihuahua Weather Forecast
Live weather data for Chihuahua powered by Weather Scope
Chihuahua is Mexico's largest state and features extreme climate contrasts, from the searing Chihuahuan Desert in the east to the rugged Sierra Madre Occidental in the west. The capital city sits at 1,400 meters elevation and experiences hot summers above 35°C and cold winters that frequently drop below freezing.
The state receives most of its 400-600mm of annual rainfall during the North American Monsoon season from July through September, when moisture surges from the Gulf of California trigger powerful afternoon thunderstorms. The western mountain regions receive significantly more precipitation, including occasional winter snowfall.
The Copper Canyon region in the Sierra Madre experiences a dramatically different climate from the desert lowlands, with pine forests, cool summers, and winter temperatures well below freezing at higher elevations. Dust storms and extreme heat waves are common hazards in the desert portions of the state during spring and early summer.
