Paraguay climate

Paraguay is a landlocked country with a subtropical to tropical climate divided by the Paraguay River into two distinct regions. Eastern Paraguay is humid with lush forests, while the western Chaco is semi-arid. Asunción experiences hot summers averaging 34°C and mild winters around 18°C.

The wet season from October to March brings heavy thunderstorms. The dry season from April to September is cooler and less humid. The Chaco region is one of the hottest areas in South America, occasionally exceeding 45°C.

Paraguay's position in the La Plata Basin makes it susceptible to large-scale flooding. Cold Antarctic air masses known as friagens can briefly push temperatures near freezing even in this subtropical country.
