About WeatherScope

WeatherScope is a weather radar and forecast service for the web, iPhone, Apple Watch and Android. It is built and run by Aviator Assistant LLC, a Florida software company that makes weather and flight tools for pilots, drone operators and everyday users.

What you can do here

  • Forecasts for your place: current conditions, the next hour, an hourly chart and a 10-day outlook, plus air quality, sun and moon times, and the local weather alerts.
  • Live radar: a full-screen radar map with a global radar mosaic, individual NEXRAD, TDWR and European radar stations, lightning and satellite.
  • Forecast maps: GFS and RRFS forecast models (temperature, wind, storms, smoke and more) on the same map.
  • Severe weather and hurricanes: Storm Prediction Center outlooks and watches, National Weather Service alerts, and the National Hurricane Center's storm tracks and cones.
  • The WeatherScope blog: daily weather briefings and articles about what is happening in the weather.
  • A free radar map for your own website: see Embed the Map.

Where the data comes from

Our forecasts come from our own forecasting system, which blends official observations and weather models: airport weather reports (METAR), the NOAA MRMS radar analysis, the RTMA surface analysis, the HRRR and GFS models from NOAA, and the ECMWF IFS model. Radar comes from the National Weather Service's NEXRAD and TDWR networks, the European OPERA network and other national radar services. Alerts, outlooks and hurricane information come straight from the National Weather Service, the Storm Prediction Center and the National Hurricane Center.

WeatherScope is not a government service. For life-threatening weather, always follow the official warnings from your national weather service and local emergency officials.

How the blog is written

Our daily weather briefings are drafted with the help of AI from official sources, such as the National Hurricane Center, the National Weather Service, the Storm Prediction Center and the Weather Prediction Center. Each draft is then checked against those sources before it is published: storm positions, warnings, times and numbers have to match. When we find a mistake after publishing, we correct the post.

The apps

WeatherScope started as an app and is still at its core: live radar on iPhone and Apple Watch with smooth radar animation, AI weather summaries, a hurricane tracker and aviation weather layers. The app is free to download; WeatherScope Premium unlocks advanced layers and removes ads, on the website too.

The company

Aviator Assistant LLC is based in Florida, United States. Besides WeatherScope it makes the Aviator Assistant EFB for pilots, UAV Weather for drone pilots, Flight Tracker and the Aviator Assistant Weather API. You can find all of them on aviatorassistant.com.
