Brazil Weather Forecast

Brazil's vast territory encompasses nearly every climate type found in the Southern Hemisphere. The Amazon basin dominates the north with equatorial heat and humidity, receiving over 2,000mm of rainfall annually in a climate where thunderstorms can occur on more than 200 days per year. This immense rainforest generates its own weather patterns, recycling moisture through transpiration and creating atmospheric rivers that influence weather across the entire continent.

The northeast region includes the semi-arid Sertão, one of the driest areas in South America, where droughts can persist for years. In stark contrast, the southern states of Paraná, Santa Catarina, and Rio Grande do Sul experience a subtropical climate with distinct seasons, cold winters that occasionally bring frost and even snow to highland areas, and severe thunderstorms that can produce large hail and tornadoes.

Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo have warm, humid summers (December-March) with frequent afternoon thunderstorms, and mild, drier winters. The central plateau where Brasília sits enjoys a tropical savanna climate with a pronounced dry season from May to September. Coastal cities from Salvador to Fortaleza benefit from steady trade winds and warm ocean temperatures, making them popular year-round destinations.
