Venezuela Weather Forecast
Live weather data for Venezuela powered by Weather Scope
Venezuela's tropical location just north of the equator gives it a warm climate year-round, but elevation and regional geography create significant variations. The Caribbean coast and Maracaibo basin are hot and humid, with Maracaibo being one of the warmest cities in South America. The Andes in the west reach over 4,900 meters and experience cool temperatures and mountain weather, while the vast llanos plains in the center flood extensively during the wet season.
The country experiences a distinct wet season from May through November and a dry season from December through April, driven by the migration of the Intertropical Convergence Zone. The Catatumbo lightning phenomenon over Lake Maracaibo produces an extraordinary display of near-continuous lightning for up to 10 hours per night during the wet season, generating more lightning per square kilometer than anywhere else on Earth.
Caracas enjoys a relatively mild climate due to its 900-meter elevation, with temperatures averaging around 22°C year-round, earning it the nickname "city of eternal spring." The Guiana Highlands in the southeast are home to dramatic tepui table mountains where unique cloud forest ecosystems develop in cool, moisture-laden conditions. Margarita Island and the Caribbean coast are drier and sunnier, attracting visitors with consistent trade winds.
