Slovakia climate

Slovakia's climate is continental with significant variation driven by elevation, spanning from the Danube lowlands to the High Tatras exceeding 2,600 meters. Bratislava is one of the warmest cities in Central Europe, with summer highs regularly above 30°C.

The Carpathian mountain chain generates heavy orographic precipitation, with annual rainfall in the Tatras exceeding 1,600mm. Winter inversions are common in mountain valleys.

Severe thunderstorms with large hail are a regular occurrence on the southern lowlands from May through July. The High Tatras maintain alpine conditions year-round.
