Ukraine climate
Ukraine's vast territory spans multiple climate zones, from moderate continental in the west to steppe climate in the southeast and subtropical along the Black Sea coast. Kyiv experiences distinct seasons with warm summers averaging 25-27°C and cold winters where temperatures regularly drop to -10°C.
The flat, open steppe in the south and east is exposed to weather extremes, with scorching summer heat that can exceed 40°C and bitter winter blizzards. The Carpathian Mountains in western Ukraine receive the heaviest precipitation and snowfall.
The Black Sea coast around Odesa enjoys milder winters. Spring across Ukraine is marked by rapid snowmelt and flooding, while autumn brings a warm period known as bab'ye lito.
