Poland Weather Radar
Live radar for Poland powered by Weather Scope
Poland's location in central Europe places it at the crossroads of maritime and continental air masses, resulting in a transitional climate with significant year-to-year variability. Winters can be mild and damp when Atlantic influences dominate, or bitterly cold when Siberian high pressure extends westward, bringing temperatures below -20°C. The flat terrain of the Great Poland Lowland offers little protection from either influence.
Summer brings warm temperatures with frequent thunderstorms, particularly over the mountains in the south and the lake districts in the northeast. Poland's Baltic coast is cooler and windier than the interior, with the sea moderating temperatures in both directions. The Tatra Mountains in the far south experience Alpine conditions with heavy snowfall, and the mountain weather can change rapidly and dangerously.
Warsaw has a continental climate with cold winters averaging -2°C, sometimes with extended periods of snow cover, and warm summers around 19°C. Kraków in the south experiences similar conditions but with more winter fog trapped in the Vistula valley. Gdańsk on the Baltic coast has milder winters but cooler summers, while the mountain resort of Zakopane at the foot of the Tatras receives some of the heaviest snowfall in central Europe.
