Nepal Weather Forecast

Nepal's climate is extraordinarily diverse, spanning from subtropical jungles in the southern Terai plains to permanent ice and snow on the world's highest peaks including Mount Everest. Within a horizontal distance of just 150 kilometers, elevations rise from near sea level to over 8,800 meters, producing one of the steepest climate gradients found anywhere on Earth.

The summer monsoon from June to September is the dominant weather event, delivering over 80% of Nepal's annual precipitation. Pre-monsoon months of April and May bring increasing heat and thunderstorms to the lowlands, while the post-monsoon period from October to November offers the clearest skies and most popular trekking conditions in the Himalayas.

The Kathmandu Valley at 1,400 meters elevation enjoys a pleasant subtropical highland climate with warm summers and mild winters. Northern regions above 3,500 meters experience harsh alpine conditions with heavy winter snowfall, while the Terai lowlands along the Indian border share the hot, humid conditions of the Indo-Gangetic Plain with summer temperatures regularly exceeding 40°C.
