Coastal areas along the Caribbean see temperatures between 26°C and 32°C year-round, while Tegucigalpa, situated at about 1,000 meters elevation, averages a more comfortable 19°C to 25°C.
The rainy season lasts from May to November, with the heaviest downpours occurring between September and November along the Caribbean coast. The Pacific-facing south receives less total rainfall and has a more distinct dry season from November through April.
Honduras is highly vulnerable to hurricanes and tropical storms that track through the western Caribbean. Hurricane Mitch in 1998 and Hurricanes Eta and Iota in 2020 caused devastating flooding and landslides.
