Nicaragua climate

Nicaragua, the largest country in Central America, has a tropical climate that varies significantly between its Pacific lowlands, central highlands, and Caribbean coast. Managua is one of the hottest capitals in the region with average highs near 34°C.

The dry season from November to April dominates the Pacific slope, while the Caribbean coast receives rainfall year-round, totaling 3,000 to 6,000 mm annually. The rainy season on the Pacific side runs from May to October.

Nicaragua's Caribbean coast is directly exposed to Atlantic hurricanes, and major storms have caused catastrophic damage throughout history. Lake Nicaragua and Lake Managua moderate local temperatures but can amplify flooding during prolonged heavy rains.
