El Salvador climate

El Salvador, the smallest and most densely populated country in Central America, has a tropical climate with two distinct seasons. The Pacific coastline brings warm, humid air, with coastal temperatures averaging 30°C to 34°C. The interior highlands around San Salvador sit at roughly 650 meters and enjoy slightly cooler conditions around 23°C to 28°C.

The wet season runs from May through October and is characterized by heavy afternoon thunderstorms. The dry season from November to April brings warm, sunny weather with minimal precipitation.

El Salvador's chain of active volcanoes creates localized microclimates and enhances orographic rainfall on windward slopes. The country faces recurring threats from Pacific tropical storms, which can cause widespread flooding in low-lying areas.
