Tropical cyclones pose the greatest weather threat to Samoa, with the islands lying within the South Pacific cyclone belt. The South Pacific Convergence Zone frequently passes over the islands, triggering prolonged periods of heavy rainfall.

The volcanic terrain creates localized weather patterns, with windward slopes receiving substantially more rain than leeward areas. Humidity remains high throughout the year, typically between 75-85%.
