Prince Edward Island, Canada's smallest province, enjoys a maritime climate moderated by the surrounding Gulf of St. Lawrence and Northumberland Strait. Winter on PEI brings significant snowfall, averaging around 290 cm per year, and the Northumberland Strait regularly freezes over, historically isolating the island before the Confederation Bridge opened in 1997. Nor'easters and Atlantic storms can deliver heavy snow, strong winds, and coastal flooding. Post-tropical cyclones occasionally affect the island with damaging winds and storm surge.

PEI's compact size means weather conditions are relatively uniform across the island, though coastal areas experience more fog and sea breezes than the interior. The island's red soil and agricultural landscape are sensitive to drought in summer and spring flooding. Autumn is often the most pleasant season, with warm days, cool nights, and spectacular foliage along the island's gentle rolling hills.
