Timor-Leste Weather Forecast

Timor-Leste occupies the eastern half of Timor island and has a tropical climate strongly influenced by the Australian and Asian monsoon systems. The country's mountainous interior rises to 2,963 meters at Mount Ramelau, creating significant climate variation between the hot, dry northern coastal strip and the wetter southern slopes facing the Timor Sea.

Two distinct seasons define the weather: the wet season from November to May brings heavy monsoonal rains with 70-80% of annual precipitation, while the dry season from June to October is dominated by dry southeasterly winds from Australia. Dili on the northern coast receives about 1,000 mm of rain annually, while the mountainous interior and southern coast receive up to 2,000 mm.

The northern coastal plain around Dili is one of the driest areas in maritime Southeast Asia, resembling the arid landscapes of nearby eastern Indonesia more than the lush tropics further west. Temperatures along the coast average 27-33°C year-round, while mountain communities above 1,500 meters experience significantly cooler conditions with nighttime temperatures occasionally dropping below 10°C. Timor-Leste's position near the boundary of the Indo-Australian tectonic plates also makes it prone to seismic activity that can compound the effects of extreme weather events.
