The Federated States of Micronesia spans over 2,500 kilometers of the western Pacific with a tropical oceanic climate. Average temperatures remain stable at 27-28°C. Pohnpei's mountainous interior receives over 7,600mm of rain annually.

Micronesia lies within the western Pacific typhoon genesis region, where many powerful tropical cyclones first develop before tracking westward. Super Typhoon Maysak in 2015 struck Chuuk and Yap with devastating force.

The western states experience a more defined dry season from January to March compared to the perpetually wet eastern states. Sea surface temperatures consistently exceed 28°C.
