Kyrgyzstan Weather Forecast
Live weather data for Kyrgyzstan powered by Weather Scope
Kyrgyzstan is a mountainous country where over 90% of the territory lies above 1,500 meters, creating a diverse alpine climate with conditions that vary enormously with altitude. The Tian Shan range dominates the landscape, with peaks exceeding 7,000 meters that support extensive glaciers and permanent snowfields feeding the country's rivers and lakes.
Bishkek in the northern Chuy Valley has a continental climate with hot, dry summers reaching 35°C and cold winters dropping to -15°C. The high-altitude basins and valleys experience much harsher conditions, with the central Naryn region recording winter temperatures below -30°C. Precipitation ranges from 150 mm in rain-shadow valleys to over 1,000 mm on windward mountain slopes.
Lake Issyk-Kul, the world's second-largest alpine lake at 1,607 meters elevation, exerts a significant moderating influence on the surrounding climate, keeping its shores frost-free through winter despite the extreme continental conditions elsewhere at similar altitudes. The Fergana Valley in the southwest enjoys the warmest and driest conditions in the country, with a climate more similar to neighboring Uzbekistan than to the Kyrgyz highlands.
