Estonia is the northernmost of the Baltic states with a humid continental climate and strong maritime influences. Tallinn's winters are cold but less extreme than its latitude might suggest, with January averages around -4°C.

The country's 2,222 islands and extensive coastline mean weather can vary significantly between the western archipelago and the interior. Coastal areas are subject to fierce autumn and winter storms.

Snow typically covers the ground from late November through early April. Summers are brief but bright, with the famous white nights in June when Tallinn never fully gets dark.
