British Columbia has the most diverse climate of any Canadian province, shaped by the Pacific Ocean, coastal mountains, and vast interior plateaus. The coastal mountains force this moisture upward, producing some of the wettest spots in North America on their windward slopes while creating rain shadows in the interior.

BC's weather extremes are striking: Lytton set Canada's all-time heat record at 49.6°C in June 2021, while coastal cities like Prince Rupert receive over 2,500 mm of rain annually. Winter brings heavy snowfall to the mountain passes and world-class ski conditions, while the Okanagan Valley enjoys a semi-arid climate with hot, dry summers ideal for agriculture.
