Tajikistan Weather Radar
Live radar for Tajikistan powered by Weather Scope
Tajikistan is the most mountainous country in Central Asia, with the Pamir Mountains in the east earning the nickname "Roof of the World" with peaks rising above 7,400 meters. This extreme topography creates sharply contrasting climate zones within short distances, from subtropical valleys in the southwest to permanent glaciers and polar conditions at high elevation.
Dushanbe sits at 800 meters in a sheltered valley and has a Mediterranean-influenced continental climate with hot, dry summers reaching 40°C and mild winters. Rainfall arrives primarily between December and May, with summers almost completely dry. The western lowlands receive 500-600 mm annually, while the eastern Pamir Plateau is a high-altitude cold desert receiving less than 100 mm.
The Fedchenko Glacier in the Pamir range is the longest glacier outside the polar regions, stretching 77 kilometers and representing a vast frozen water reserve. The Gorno-Badakhshan Autonomous Region in the east experiences some of the harshest inhabited conditions in Central Asia, where settlements above 3,500 meters endure winters lasting seven months with temperatures plummeting below -45°C in the most exposed locations.
