Morocco climate
Morocco's climate varies dramatically from the Mediterranean coast in the north to the Saharan desert in the south. Coastal cities like Rabat and Casablanca enjoy mild, wet winters and warm, dry summers, while the interior experiences more extreme temperature swings. The Atlas Mountains create a significant climate divide, trapping moisture on the western slopes and leaving the eastern side arid.
Rainfall in Morocco is concentrated between October and April, with the northern Rif Mountains receiving the heaviest precipitation. The sirocco wind, known locally as the chergui, can bring intense heat and dust from the Sahara during summer months. Snow is common in the High Atlas above 2,000 meters, supporting several ski resorts that operate from December through March.
The southern regions of Morocco, including the Draa-Tafilalet and the Western Sahara, experience true desert conditions with annual rainfall often below 100mm. Temperatures in cities like Marrakech can exceed 45°C during summer heat waves. Weather Scope provides detailed forecasts to help travelers and residents navigate Morocco's remarkably diverse climate zones.
