Algeria Weather Radar
Live radar for Algeria powered by Weather Scope
Algeria is the largest country in Africa, and its climate spans from a narrow Mediterranean strip along the coast to the vast Saharan desert that covers more than 80% of its territory. The Tell Atlas region near Algiers receives 600-1,000mm of annual rainfall, with mild winters and hot summers typical of the Mediterranean basin. Coastal temperatures rarely drop below 5°C in winter or exceed 35°C in summer.
The Saharan interior of Algeria is one of the hottest and driest places on Earth. Temperatures in places like In Salah and Adrar regularly exceed 50°C during summer, and annual rainfall can be less than 20mm. Sandstorms driven by the sirocco wind are a frequent hazard, reducing visibility and depositing fine dust hundreds of kilometers away. The Hoggar Mountains in the far south provide a slightly cooler highland refuge.
Between the coast and the deep desert, the High Plateaux experience a semi-arid continental climate with cold winters that can bring frost and occasional snowfall. The steppe grasslands here are vulnerable to drought, and water scarcity is a persistent challenge. Weather Scope helps Algerians and visitors monitor conditions across this geographically immense and climatically varied nation.
