Libya Weather Radar
Live radar for Libya powered by Weather Scope
Libya's climate is predominantly desert, with over 90% of the country classified as arid or hyper-arid. The narrow coastal strip along the Mediterranean, where Tripoli and Benghazi are located, receives between 250-400mm of annual rainfall and experiences relatively mild winters. The ghibli, a hot, dry southerly wind, can raise temperatures along the coast by 20°C in a matter of hours and carry Saharan dust far out to sea.
The interior Fezzan region of Libya is among the most extreme desert environments on the planet. The town of Al-Aziziyah once recorded one of the highest air temperatures ever measured on Earth. Rainfall in the deep interior is practically nonexistent, with some areas going years without measurable precipitation. Diurnal temperature swings of 30°C or more are common in the open desert.
The Jebel Akhdar highlands in Cyrenaica, reaching elevations above 800 meters, form a green oasis in an otherwise parched landscape. This region receives significantly more rainfall than the surrounding lowlands and supports agriculture including olive groves and juniper forests. Weather Scope offers essential forecasting tools for monitoring Libya's harsh yet varied weather conditions.
