Eswatini Weather Radar
Live radar for Eswatini powered by Weather Scope
Eswatini, formerly known as Swaziland, is a small landlocked kingdom with a remarkably diverse climate for its size, ranging from cool, moist highlands in the west to hot, dry lowlands in the east. The country descends from the Highveld at around 1,500 meters through the Middleveld to the Lowveld at about 300 meters, and each zone has distinctly different weather characteristics. Annual rainfall ranges from over 1,500mm in the western mountains to less than 500mm in the eastern Lowveld.
The wet season from October to March brings summer thunderstorms that can be intense, with hail and lightning posing risks to communities and agriculture. The sugarcane-growing Lowveld receives less rain but higher temperatures, frequently exceeding 35°C in summer. The dry winter season from April to September features clear skies, cool mornings, and comfortable afternoons, though the Highveld can experience frost and occasional freezing conditions, particularly in June and July.
Mbabane in the Highveld has a subtropical highland climate with summer temperatures averaging 20°C and winter nights dropping to around 5°C, making it one of the cooler capitals in southern Africa. The Ezulwini Valley, known as the "Valley of Heaven," has an intermediate climate with warm days and pleasant nights. Manzini in the Middleveld is warmer than Mbabane, while the eastern border towns near Mozambique experience oppressive heat during summer. The Malolotja Nature Reserve in the northwest highlands receives some of the country's heaviest rainfall and coolest temperatures.
