Live weather data for Jordan powered by Weather Scope

Jordan's compact territory encompasses a surprising range of climates, from the relatively green highlands around Amman to the vast eastern desert and the deep rift valley along the Dead Sea. Amman sits at approximately 800 meters elevation and experiences a Mediterranean-influenced climate with hot, dry summers around 32°C and cool winters that occasionally bring snow to the city. The Jordan Valley and Dead Sea region, at more than 400 meters below sea level, is dramatically hotter and drier than the highland plateau.

The eastern desert, which makes up roughly 75% of Jordan's land area, receives less than 50mm of rainfall per year and experiences extreme temperature swings between day and night. Flash flooding is a serious and often fatal hazard in the narrow canyons of Wadi Rum and Petra, where rare but intense downpours funnel through steep-walled gorges with little warning. The country's limited water resources make it one of the most water-scarce nations on Earth.

Aqaba on the Red Sea coast enjoys year-round warmth with summer temperatures exceeding 40°C and mild winters around 20°C, making it a popular resort destination. The highland cities of Amman, Jerash, and Ajloun receive most of their rainfall between November and March, with annual totals around 300-500mm. Spring is brief but spectacular, transforming the normally brown landscape with wildflowers before the long, dry summer sets in across most of the country.
