Dominican Republic climate

The Dominican Republic features a tropical climate with considerable regional variation due to its mountainous terrain. Santo Domingo enjoys warm temperatures between 25°C and 31°C year-round. The Cordillera Central includes Pico Duarte at 3,098 meters — the highest point in the Caribbean.

Rainfall patterns vary dramatically. The rainy season generally runs from May to November, with the north coast receiving rain year-round. The southwest Enriquillo Basin is semi-arid, receiving less than 500 mm annually.

The Dominican Republic lies in the Atlantic hurricane belt and faces significant storm risk between August and October. The northern coast is particularly exposed to Atlantic swells and tropical storm surge.
