Qatar's small peninsula jutting into the Persian Gulf experiences one of the most extreme climates of any nation. Summer temperatures from May through September regularly exceed 45°C, combined with crushing humidity from the surrounding gulf waters that can push the heat index to life-threatening levels above 60°C. These conditions make outdoor activity genuinely dangerous for extended periods during the hottest months.

Winter from November through February offers the only comfortable outdoor season, with pleasant temperatures between 15°C and 25°C, clear skies, and low humidity. Rainfall is rare, averaging only about 75mm per year, concentrated in the winter months. When rain does fall, it can be surprisingly intense, overwhelming drainage systems in Doha and causing flash flooding. Dust storms driven by shamal winds can reduce visibility to near zero and disrupt daily life.

Doha experiences extreme summer heat with high humidity that makes the capital one of the hottest and most uncomfortable cities on Earth during peak summer. The flat, low-lying terrain offers no relief from the heat. The sea surrounding the peninsula moderates temperatures slightly compared to the deep interior of the Arabian Peninsula, but also adds humidity that compounds the heat. The rapid urbanization of Doha has created significant heat island effects, making the city even warmer than surrounding desert areas.
