Malta climate

Malta enjoys a hot Mediterranean climate with very mild winters and long, dry summers. Valletta averages over 3,000 hours of sunshine per year, with summer temperatures regularly reaching 33-36°C.

Rainfall is concentrated almost entirely between October and March. When autumn storms arrive, they can be intense and produce flash flooding on the small, densely populated islands.

The Xlokk, a hot sirocco wind from the Sahara, can push temperatures above 40°C. Winter in Malta is remarkably mild by European standards, with frost being virtually unknown.
