Ohio Weather Radar

Live radar for Ohio powered by Weather Scope

Ohio has a humid continental climate with cold winters and warm, humid summers. The state's weather is influenced by Lake Erie to the north and the Ohio River Valley to the south, creating noticeable regional differences. Columbus receives approximately 39 inches of rain and 28 inches of snow annually, with precipitation distributed fairly evenly throughout the year.

Lake-effect snow is a significant winter weather feature in northeastern Ohio, where areas near Cleveland and the snowbelt can receive 60 to 100 inches of snow per season. Severe thunderstorms and tornadoes affect the state from April through August, with the western half being more tornado-prone. The Xenia tornado of 1974, part of the Super Outbreak, was one of the deadliest single tornadoes in Ohio history.

Ohio's transitional location between the Midwest and the East means it experiences a wide variety of weather patterns throughout the year. Summer heat waves can push temperatures into the upper 90s, while winter cold snaps bring sub-zero readings. Freezing rain and ice storms are common transitional hazards that can cripple infrastructure and create treacherous travel conditions across the state.
