Azerbaijan Weather Forecast
Live weather data for Azerbaijan powered by Weather Scope
Azerbaijan contains a remarkable nine of the world's eleven climate zones within its relatively small territory, ranging from subtropical lowlands along the Caspian Sea to alpine tundra in the Greater Caucasus Mountains. Baku on the Absheron Peninsula has a semi-arid climate with mild, damp winters and hot, dry summers, heavily influenced by persistent Caspian winds known as the "khazri" and "gilavar."
The Kura-Aras lowland in central Azerbaijan experiences the hottest and driest conditions, with summer temperatures exceeding 40°C and annual rainfall below 250 mm. Winter in the lowlands is generally mild, with temperatures rarely dropping below freezing, though cold air intrusions from Russia can occasionally bring brief but intense cold spells with snow.
The Greater Caucasus slopes in the north and the Lankaran region in the south present dramatically different conditions from the arid interior. Lankaran receives over 1,200 mm of rainfall annually and supports lush Hyrcanian forests, a relict subtropical ecosystem dating back millions of years. The mountain regions experience heavy winter snowfall and summer temperatures 15-20°C cooler than the Caspian coast, supporting alpine meadows and glacial landscapes above 3,500 meters.
