Saskatchewan Weather Radar
Live radar for Saskatchewan powered by Weather Scope
Saskatchewan's wide-open prairies and lack of significant topography produce a quintessential continental climate with some of the greatest temperature extremes in Canada. Winters are long and bitterly cold, with temperatures frequently reaching -30°C or colder, while summers can be surprisingly hot with temperatures above 35°C. The province is also one of Canada's sunniest, averaging over 2,300 hours of sunshine per year.
The flat terrain makes Saskatchewan especially prone to severe convective weather in summer, earning it a reputation as one of Canada's most active regions for thunderstorms, hail, and tornadoes. The southeast corner of the province is particularly vulnerable, and supercell thunderstorms can produce dramatic shelf clouds and dangerous weather visible for dozens of kilometers across the open plains.
Saskatchewan's winters are defined by persistent cold and frequent blizzards that can paralyze transportation across the province. The lack of moderating geographic features means Arctic outbreaks arrive with full force. Spring and fall are brief, with rapid freeze-thaw cycles that can create hazardous driving conditions and dramatic day-to-day temperature swings of 20°C or more.
