Bahrain Weather Radar
Live radar for Bahrain powered by Weather Scope
Bahrain is a small island archipelago in the Persian Gulf that endures one of the most oppressive summer climates on Earth. The combination of extreme heat exceeding 45°C and very high humidity from the surrounding warm gulf waters creates heat index values that can surpass 60°C from June through September. The islands' low, flat terrain — the highest point is only 134 meters — offers no relief from the heat, and the surrounding shallow waters actually amplify humidity rather than cooling the air.
Winter from December through February is pleasant and mild, with temperatures between 14°C and 22°C and occasional light rainfall. Annual precipitation averages just 72mm, making Bahrain one of the driest countries in the world. The islands are occasionally affected by shamal dust storms that blow down from Iraq and the Arabian interior, reducing visibility and degrading air quality. Dense fog can form over the Gulf during winter mornings, sometimes disrupting the King Fahd Causeway connecting Bahrain to Saudi Arabia.
Manama's urban heat island effect compounds the already extreme natural temperatures, making the densely built capital particularly uncomfortable during summer. Sea breezes provide modest relief along the coast during the cooler months but do little against the summer heat wall. Bahrain's small size means there is virtually no climate variation across the islands — conditions in Manama are representative of the entire country. Spring and autumn are brief transition periods marked by rising or falling temperatures and occasional gusty winds.
