Maine Weather Radar
Live radar for Maine powered by Weather Scope
Maine has a humid continental climate with cold, snowy winters and warm summers that are shorter than most of the eastern United States. The state's northern location and extensive coastline create significant weather variations between the interior and the coast. Caribou, in northern Maine, has recorded temperatures as low as minus 50 degrees Fahrenheit.
Nor'easters are the most significant weather events in Maine, capable of delivering heavy snow, freezing rain, and powerful winds that batter the rocky coastline. The legendary ice storm of 1998 left much of southern and central Maine without power for weeks. The Atlantic Ocean moderates coastal temperatures but also generates fog that frequently blankets the coast during summer.
Maine's interior regions experience heavier snowfall than the coast, with some areas receiving over 100 inches per season. Summer temperatures are pleasant, typically reaching the mid-70s to low 80s, making Maine a popular warm-season destination. The state's fall foliage season is renowned, with peak colors typically occurring from late September in the north to mid-October in the southern coastal areas.
