Netherlands Weather Radar
Live radar for Netherlands powered by Weather Scope
The Netherlands' flat, low-lying terrain and North Sea exposure create a maritime climate characterized by mild temperatures, persistent wind, and frequent rainfall spread throughout the year. With much of the country at or below sea level, weather and water management are deeply intertwined in Dutch life. Cloud cover is prevalent, with the country averaging only about 1,600 hours of sunshine per year — significantly less than southern Europe.
Wind is a defining feature of Dutch weather, with the flat landscape offering no natural shelter from North Sea gales. Storm season from October through March can bring powerful winter storms with hurricane-force gusts, posing serious risks to the country's extensive infrastructure of dikes and flood barriers. Rainfall is moderate but persistent, averaging about 850mm annually with rain falling on roughly 130 days per year.
Amsterdam and other Dutch cities experience mild winters averaging around 3°C with occasional snow, and comfortable summers around 17-22°C. Spring brings the famous tulip season when warmer temperatures and increasing daylight trigger the Keukenhof gardens into bloom. Heat waves have become more frequent, with temperatures occasionally exceeding 35°C during summer. The Wadden Sea coast is windier and cooler than inland areas.
