Kazakhstan Weather Radar
Live radar for Kazakhstan powered by Weather Scope
Kazakhstan is the world's largest landlocked country, and its vast territory spans multiple climate zones from the arid deserts of the south to the frigid steppe of the north. The continental climate produces dramatic temperature ranges, with Astana recording winter lows below -40°C and summer highs above 35°C, giving the capital one of the widest annual temperature swings of any major city.
Precipitation is generally sparse across Kazakhstan, averaging 250 mm annually for most of the country. The northern steppe receives slightly more moisture and supports wheat cultivation, while the southern deserts around the Aral Sea basin are extremely arid. Spring snowmelt from the Tian Shan and Altai mountain ranges feeds critical river systems that sustain agriculture in the lowlands.
The southeastern city of Almaty, nestled against the Tian Shan range at 800 meters elevation, enjoys a distinctly milder climate than the exposed northern steppe, with warmer winters and more abundant precipitation including significant mountain snowfall. The Caspian Sea coast in the west has a semi-arid climate moderated by the sea, with milder winters than the interior but intensely hot summers that can exceed 42°C in the Mangystau region.
