Denmark Weather Radar
Live radar for Denmark powered by Weather Scope
Denmark's maritime climate is heavily influenced by its position between the North Sea and the Baltic, with the surrounding waters moderating temperatures in both summer and winter. The country is flat and low-lying, with no point exceeding 171 meters elevation, which means wind is a persistent feature of Danish weather. Denmark is one of the windiest countries in Europe, a characteristic it has harnessed to become a global leader in wind energy.
Winters are mild compared to other Scandinavian countries, with temperatures rarely dropping far below freezing thanks to the surrounding seas. However, the combination of cold temperatures, wind, and damp conditions can make Danish winters feel bitterly cold. Snow falls intermittently but rarely accumulates significantly, except during occasional severe cold snaps when Arctic air pushes south. The west coast of Jutland is more exposed and wetter than the sheltered islands.
Copenhagen has cool winters averaging around 1°C and mild summers around 17°C. The city benefits from its coastal position but is windier than sheltered inland areas. Aarhus on the Jutland peninsula has a similar climate but with slightly more rainfall. The island of Bornholm in the Baltic enjoys more sunshine than the rest of Denmark, while the west coast of Jutland is wilder, with strong winds and dramatic North Sea storms during autumn and winter.
